Mallow Town FC is going from strength to strength

-

With success on the pitch and numbers increasing all the time off it, pressure for coaches and volunteers can often be a problem in clubs like Mallow Town FC however Howell is delighted with the support he has been receiving from both.

“Luckily the number of coaches at the club has not been a problem and the club has invested heavily in all the coaches getting FAI coaching qualifications. We currently have at the club six coaches with FAI Kick Start 2 accreditation and seven coaches with Kick Start One. We have also seen all our coaches completing the child awareness program. Kids safety is of the utmost importance to us at Mallow Town FC.”

Mallow Town FC may be the new boy on the Cork football scene but the kids have been securing titles at all levels of action in the last 36 months.

The club also has a social side and organized a bus to the Cork City v Bray match recently where the boys were invited to take part in the half time mini games kick around in front of an attendance of over 2,500. The club also brings parents and coaches together during and after the season to enjoy being part of this spirited and growing club.

The club prides itself on its ability to facilitate all kids and this inclusiveness policy has seen boys from Poland, Lithuania, Cameroon and Nigeria all join in recent years. This policy will continued in 2016 with kids from all nationalities getting involved.

Mallow Town FC runs programmes which see them carry out coaching in the Mallow town and in the surrounding areas. This it is hoped will give more children an introduction to soccer and ultimately may prove to be another way of getting players to join.

While all of these programmes are positive and well intentioned it is clear that man power is required to pull them off and fortunately that is one area where Mallow Town FC are really strong. Parents are called upon to get involved in coaching, bring in players, market the club and bring in new, creative ideas that will see the club move forward. Volunteers distribute fliers, help create mailing lists and email lists and more importantly use them as well as spreading the word about all the good work being done by the most trusted means possible, word of mouth.

Player development and player enjoyment of football is a core central philosophy to the club’s three year plan. While the club is keen to have success at every level possible all involved have stressed that success in their club should focused on learning. Learning the skills required to play the game properly while also learning how to have fun.

A lot of hard work has been put into getting Mallow Town FC up and running however the hard continues as the club looks to move on, securing its own space in what can often be a crowded place to do business.
