Number of 40x20 county championsh­ip finals to be decided this week

THE 40x20 County Championsh­ip schedule continues to progress with a number of finals down for decision over the coming days.

Starting this Thursday evening both semi-finals of Junior B Doubles are down for decision one in Fermoy and one in Mallow both with a 7.30 start. At Fermoy Conna pair Hugh Carolan and Ian Heffernan take on Glenville Pa Buckley/ Dan Lynch in a game that could go either way. In the second semi-final at Mallow Boherbue pair of Shane Flynn and Jonathon Lucey take on Ballydesmo­nd’s Michael Linehan and Kevin O’Connell and again there should not be much between them at the end.

On Friday in Junior Doubles Mallow pair Ryan Harkin and Kieran Buckley play Kilworth’s John Horgan and James Moakley in Fermoy also with a 7.30 start.

On Saturday it’s back to Mallow again for Minor Singles Final which is an all Mallow clash as club mates Tadhg O’Neill and David Walsh do battle for the title.

On Monday Liscarroll will host Intermedia­te Singles Final in which Tadgh Carroll, Mallow, faces Liscarroll’s Daniel Relihan, which promises to be a lively contest.

Then on Tuesday evening Liscarroll will host Junior B Doubles Final at 7.30. Here the winner of Thursday evenings semi-finals Conna v Glenville face the winner of Ballydesmo­nd v Boherbue.

Also on Tuesday in Mallow at 7.30 Masters/Silver Masters Doubles semi-finals will be decided as Conna pair Barry O’Regan and Kieran Noonan play Ballydesmo­nd’s Paul Kerins and Philip O’Carroll. Good progress has been made in Mallow Credit Union sponsored 40x20 Juvenile County Championsh­ip all finalists should be know by this weekend, with the Finals scheduled for Saturday/Sunday January 7/8 at Mallow.

The Liscarroll club hosted Munster Open U-13 and U-15 Boys and Girls Tournament is only a little over a week away, With a big entry already in and still building its all systems go for the start on Tuesday December 27 and will continue day on day until Sunday January 1.

From humble beginnings this is now one of the biggest if not biggest juvenile tournament in the country attracting entries from all four provinces. It’s a huge undertakin­g with great credit due to Liscarroll club for the amount of work put in year on year ensuring the huge success it now enjoys. Many of the top players playing today enjoyed their first big success in Liscarroll.

The play-off in Cork Open Juvenile Singles League continues as each age group U-12 to U-17 is narrowed down to four players, from which the Compunet IT Solutions team to represent Cork in the 2017 Munster juvenile Singles and doubles championsh­ip will be decided. Coaching and training of the players involved will continue right through to the end of January in preparatio­n for their Munster championsh­ip programme.
