Sign up for 34th Christmas Day swim at Island Wood

-

CHRISTMAS Day will see the 34th annual swim take place in Island wood at 12.30pm.

Each year swimmers look forward to this wonderful fundraising event and help raise thousands of euro for charity. This year’s chosen charity is Mallow Search and Rescue, a voluntary organisation who are involved in water based missing persons searches.

Thirty volunteers from all walks of life are involved with the unit which has four boats and a sonar system which greatly helps by decreasing search times in often very sad and tragic circumstances.

They receive no state funding and rely totally on voluntary contributions; an organisation very worthy of our support.

The swim is also a very social occasion where people meet up and chat in the festive surroundings of our beautiful wood.

Mulled wine and hot lemonade help keep the cold at bay.

So please sponsor one of the swimmers or make a donation on the day or privately to organiser Mary Stack who can be contacted at 087:9439612.

Sponsorship cards are available from Mary and please note swimmers must register with Mary beforehand for insurance purposes.

“We look forward to your support and seeing a huge crowd on the day so that we will be able to hand over much needed funds to this exceptional band of volunteers,” said Mary, who is again looking forward to the day.
