JOHNNY MURPHY WINS ALL-IRELAND BRONZE – Johnny Murphy had the run of his life at Dundalk IT, Co Louth in the boys under-11 Cross Country Championships last Sunday. Out of a field of 175 athletes, he finished in sixth place overall, the first Cork or Munster athlete home. He achieved this despite a fall at the start of the race, but did not lose out too much as he recovered quickly and was still in the top 20 at the 500m mark, he was in 12th place at 500 to go, gaining on the leaders all the time. With a final push approaching the finish, he got into sixth place. For the record, the Cork team and the Munster team both finished in fourth place. He will be a force to be reconed with in the future if he stays at athletics. Congratulations and well done Johnny.
