Deadline for Mallow Sports and Leisure Awards nominations fast approaching AWARDS WILL BE HANDED OUT AT ‘MALLOW OSCARS’ ON MARCH 4
TIME is running out for nominations for the annual Corkman/AIB/Cathal Lombard Solicitors sponsored Mallow and District Sports and Leisure Awards, with the deadline for applications set to expire on Friday, January 29.
With Sean Ryan already unveiled as this year’s inductee into the Hall of Fame and the Sean Moylan Park Residents Association winners of the Community Award, the search is now for nominees in the Youth Sport, Adult Sport and Club Person categories.
All recipients will be presented with their awards during a glittering bash, dubbed the ‘Oscars of Mallow’ at the Springfort Hall Hotel on Saturday, March 4.
In keeping with the long tradition of having wellknown personalities present the annual awards, the guest of honour for the night will be World Champion and Olympic bronze medal winning race walker Rob Heffernan.
Awards committee spokesperson Roisin Moriarty said they were delighted that a personality of Rob’s calibre had agreed to present the awards.
“It goes to show just how popular there awards are and how much they mean to the people of Mallow and the surrounding areas,” said Roisin.
As in previous years nominations are being accepted from groups and individuals from Mallow and the wider North Cork area including Mourneabbey, Kilshannig, Ballyclough, Buttevant, Doneraile and Killavullen.
“We really want to encourage the public to nominate anyone they fell is deserving of being honoured for their achievements and their work on behalf of others.
It is our goal to recognise all the dedicated and hard-working people in our communities, but we can not do that without first receiving nominations,” said Roisin.
“There is not too much time left, so get those forms filled in and sent back to us. We need the help of the public in making these yet another successful awards,” she added.
