SOCCER
Buttevant Soccer Club teams have been on a winning streak with results recently. The club’s senior team put seven goals past Bweeng Celtic in the County Cup Competition two weeks ago and headed for Terenure, Dublin last Sunday with high hopes of progressing in the FAI Junior Cup Competition. The game was a hard fought battle and the local lads put up a mighty stance. As the game progressed it was evident that it was not to be Buttevant’s day. The game ended in a 2-0 defeat for Buttevant but the lads can hold their heads highfor their endeavours on the day. The club team now faces Duhallow side ‘Los Zargos’ in the next round of the competition.

COMMUNITY COUNCIL
With the Christmas season over it is down to business again for all the local voluntary organisations. Buttevant Community Council is one of those organisations and they have re-grouped following the festive season.
The Community Council has for years spear-headed community activities in the Buttevant area and will no doubt continue to do so in the future. The Community Council has been a major force in the recently completed STREETSCAPE project which has added an extra dimension to the landscape content and business opportunities for the town.
The Community Council is always available to offer help advice and actual on-the-ground assistance to enterprising businesses and their developers and the community council has all the important contacts in all the local regional provincial and national bodies.
Although the Community Council officers and committee members may not be always visible within the community projects they are always operating quietly and diligently in the background of whatever work they are participating in and with.

With Buttevant’s new street surface and footpaths there are some areas that need attention from local residents. One particular area is in the area of dog pooh on the footpaths.
There is a lot of dog pooh in the town and this is unsightly and can in some instances be dangerous. If a person walks on dog pooh there is a high risk that that person could slip and fall over as a result. The droppings also leave an ugly sight and causes heavy discolouring, staining on the surface of the footpaths.
It is the dog owner’s responsibility to clean up when their dog has done the business and in most towns it is illegal not to do so and carries a heavy fine. In some towns litter-pooh bags are provided but this is not available in Buttevant as there is no one to
