Deadline for Mallow Sports and Leisure Awards expires on Friday
FINAL nominations are now being sought from individuals and groups for the prestigious 2016 Mallow District Sports and Leisure Awards.
With the final deadline for submissions set for this coming Friday, organising committee spokesperson Roisin Moriarty has urged people not to miss out on nominating their choices.
“We are putting the final call out to all the community, sporting, charitable and resident groups in all our local parishes from Clyda to Kilshannig to Doneraile to Buttevant and Killavullen to get those forms filled in,” said Roisin.
With Sean Ryan already unveiled as this year’s inductee into the Hall of Fame and the Sean Moylan Park Residents Association winners of the Community Award, the search is now for nominees in the Youth Sport, Adult Sport and Club Person categories.
“It’s important that people from within their communities nominate the people who make their areas better places. No one knows better about the great work being done in these communities than the people who live in them. There are so many people worthy of being nominated for an award, so please make sure they are,” said Roisin.
“We have been impressed with the number of nominations already received and are now urging people not to miss out on this important deadline,” she added.
Application forms are still available from the offices of the awards joint sponsors; The Corkman, The AIB in Mallow and Cathal Lombard Solicitors.
A full and comprehensive list of rules regarding nominations is available to view at www. manddsports.com. Application forms are also available to down load from the website.
Nominations will be accepted across the sporting, leisure and community fields and any individual or organisation can nominate candidates who have striven to achieve their own personal goals or whose work has been instrumental in helping others to achieve theirs.
“Often the work of those who work hard to achieve their aims and of those who give their time selflessly for the benefit of others goes unheralded. These awards are about recognising the unsung heroes within our community whose work can often be taken for granted even by those who benefit from it,” said Ms Moriarty.
“This is our way of saying congratulations and thank you,” she added.
The completed list of youth nominees will be unveiled at the AIB branch in Mallow on Monday, February 13 with the list of adult nominees being announced at the bash in The Corkman offices a week later.
All of the winners will then be presented with their awards at a gala bash in the Springfort Hall Hotel on Saturday, March 3.
Tickets for the event, priced at €40, from Roisin Moriarty on 087 055 4382.
