McEgan students display robotic skills at CIT
THE final of the Dell EMC Vex Robotics Competition took place at the Nexus Hall of the Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) last Friday.
McEgan College sent a team of seven with each member playing a vital role in the robot’s design and manufacture.
The event involved students from other Cork schools facing off via their robots in the initiative, which is in its fifth year # and which aims to promote science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) learning.
McEgan College were knocked out in the Quarter Finals, losing out by a single point. Colaiste an Spioraid Naoimand they will go on and represent Ireland in the VEX Worlds Robotics Championships, which will be held in Kentucky in April.
You Can Take ThaT To The Bank
MCEGAN College welcomed Aidan Walsh and Michelle Kehoe from Bank of Ireland to inform Transition Year students about launching a new School Bank at McEgan.
This is a huge opportunity for the Transition Year students as as all participating pupils learn how a proper bank account works.
The school bank team is made up of between five and 10 students in a variety of roles from bank manager to marketing and teller.
Working as part of the school bank gives students the opportunity to work as part of a team and experience how a bank operates.
Whilst each role has its own responsibilities, all members of the School Bank team get to follow up with their peers all aspects a fully functioning bank account, by ensuring that they open and activate the bank accounts correctly.
Transition Year students will be responsible for the School Bank (with the support of the Bank of Ireland staff ), as well as promoting the School Bank within the school.
All students in McEgan get to understand the benefits and features of a bank account, as well as learning about account opening requirements and documentation.
