Newmarket Pipe Band looks back on busy year
THE annual general meeting of Newmarket Pipe Band was held in the band house on Kerry Road, Newmarket.
It was well attended by members. The outgoing chairperson, Ted Singleton. welcomed all attendees, and the meeting continued with minutes of the previous meeting read by Hon Secretary Karen O’Sullivan.
Reports were presented by Chairman, Hon Secretary and Treasurer, prior to the election of management committee and officers for 2017.
The Management Committee and officers for 2017 elected are: Chairperson Ted Singleton, Hon Secretary Michelle Manning , Treasurer Denis Jones, Committee: Michael Flynn, Padraig Dineen, Alison Cronin, Shane Arnold and Joanie McAuliffe.
The PRO elected for 2017 was Joanie McAuliffe, Transport Officer, John Murphy; Registrar; Tom Arnold, and Uniform Officers John Murphy and Michelle Manning.
New members elected to both top table and committee were welcomed by the chairman and previous secretary, Karen O’Sullivan, PRO; Mark O’Sullivan and long standing committee member John Murphy, who each did not go forward for their respective roles and were sincerely thanked by the team for their hard work and dedication over the years.
There were no changes to the musical positions with previous persons re-elected, namely, Drum Major: Tom Arnold, Pipe Major: Alison Fitzpatrick, Pipe Sergeant; Shane Arnold and Drum Sergeant; Michael Flynn.
Newmarket Pipe Band had one of its busiest years in 2016, and played for numerous events locally and further afield, commemorating the 1916 rising, various parades, GAA matches and travelled to Spain for a piping festival in October. The pipe band looks forward with anticipation for 2017.
