Ballydesmond tackle Cill na Martra in Tom Creedon Cup

-

FRESH from convincing wins in the opening round to the Tom Creedon Cup, the value of a quick follow up game won’t be lost on Newmarket and Cill na Martra over this weekend in quarter final fixtures.

Ballydesmond are home to Cill na Martra on Saturday, the hosts make their seasonal debut.

Losing to Bandon in the IFC last season, it looked as if Ballydesmond had a chance to gather some degree of compensation on a potential first round clash.

However the eventual county champions conceded a walk over and that may place them in a disadvantage to Ballydesmond for this tussle.

Meanwhile 2015 winners Cill na Martra impressed on a victory over Mallow in a first round and a game under the belt so early in the season is a real; confidence booster. The same applies to the meeting of Newmarket and Kinsale in Newmarket.

Newmarket delivered an encouraging performances in the opening round, shaping up the better of two sides on disposing the stern challenge of Macroom. Looking the better combination for a lengthy stage, Newmarket required extra time to take the honours and the introduction of eight substitutes indicates places are up for grabs.

Kinsale take the road for the first time and a sharper Newmarket will be fancied to succeed. Whoever come through between Newmarket/Kinsale face Millstreet/St. Michaels in a semi final. The latter meet in Cork City on Sunday, little form known though both sides may give u21 talent a start.

By virtue of reaching a county Premier IFC final appearance in 2015 but defeated by Macroom last season, a more experienced St. Michaels with the help of home advantage will be fancied to advance.
