Boherbue and Emmets U-21s renew rivalry

-

THE Duhallow U-21 A and B Football Championship draws commanded attention at the opening Board meeting in Millstreet on Monday night.

Five teams participate in each grade and the pick tie from the opening round in the A grade is the meeting of 2015/16 finalists Boherbue and Robert Emmets.

Emmets wrote a new name into the roll of honour in 2015 only for Boherbue to bounce into the limelight to capture the accolades last season. Having lost back to back A deciders to Kanturk and Emmets, victory was well deserved on this occasion for Boherbue paraded the urgency and the purpose to their play that ultimately landed only their second outright title adding to the breakthrough triumph from 1987. Indeed the finer aspects saw the good epitomised by the structure Boherbue brought to the tussle.

Boherbue operated with a plan to limit the threat of a dangerous Emmets attack. On doing so, Boherbue deployed a defensive approach to frustrate their opponents and break with telling effect and pounce for key scores to collect the silverware.

Elsewhere in the 2017 draw, Kanturk and Millstreet are well acquainted, the pair meet in a first round while Knocknagree have a bye.

At B level, 2016 finalists Kiskeam and Dromtariffe are again amongst the frontrunners. Holders Kiskeam face St. Peters while Dromtariffe are paired against Croke Rovers.

The line up in the grade is completed by Lyre who obtained a bye.
