PANTO

The annual pantomime under the auspices of Dorada School of dance and the Panto Club is taking place this weekend. This year’s offering is ‘Cinderella and her Fella’ and is guaranteed to be another hilarious production.

There is loads of music song and dance sure to please all age groups and send everybody home happy. The cast is made up of all age groups and there are all the usual participan­ts lending their talents to the scene.

Tickets at €10 per adult and €5 for children can be purchased at the door on the night. Do come along for a great evening’s entertainm­ent. The show is being held over two nights, this Friday and Saturday night in the local GAA hall, Buttevant.

BINGO

The weekly bingo session continues on Monday night in the local GAA hall, Buttevant. There are numerous monetary prizes to be won which include a bingo jackpot of €3,100 and in-house lottery of several hundred euro and an extra sheet game also having a substantia­l monetary prize fund. All gets under way at 8.30 p.m. Your support will be greatly appreciate­d.

SOCCER

Buttevant Soccer Club has again clocked up an exciting win last weekend. The club’s premier division team has qualified for the final of the St Michael’s Cup competitio­n. The team had an eventful win over city side Cathedral Celtic at the home venue. The team scored an impressive 3-1 win over their opponents. The team will now face their next opponents in the final on the hallowed turf of Turners Cross in Cork city. Well done to all concerned and best of luck in the final.

The club also runs a weekly fundraisin­g lottery which helps with the club’s expenses. The jackpot has now reached €1,200 and will continue to rise weekly till it is won on the choice of four lucky numbers to match the four numbers drawn on draw night.

PARKING

The parking situation in Buttevant is chaotic and is an accident waiting to happen. Particular­ly at school times morning and evening there have been many narrow escapes due to inconsider­ate parking. On wonders if the presence of a lollipop lady in sufficient as the traffic build up is the length of the main street at the times. The local lollipop lady is to be admired for her bravery and patience as I am sure at times she has to endure some dangerous and trying moments.

ESB WORKS

The electricit­y supply board are currently undertakin­g some re-installati­on work In some areas ofthe town. New supply poles are being erected and connected and the power supply is being restricted for a limited numbers of hours while this work is ongoing. The workers involved are very co-operative and are working with the good of the particular locality in mind. If they are in your area do be patient, tolerant and understand­ing towards them.

ALERT

There have been a number of local robberies break-ins and public order inidents over the past few weeks. We should all be on the alert for any unusual happenings, vehicles or persons acting strangely in the community. All such incidents should be reported to the relevant authoritie­s and all vehicle numbers and person descriptio­ns noted.

SYMPATHY

Sympathy is extended to those who have suffered a bereavemen­t or personal loss recently.

WELL WISHES

Well wishes are extended to those who are ill at home or in hospital at this time. also present during the Tournament. Margaret Walsh secretary of the GAA Cork Handball Board.

ATHLETIC CLUB NOTES

Ciara Sheehy, under-15, is to be presented with an award by the Athletic Associatio­n of Ireland for her performanc­es in the all-Ireland Track and Field Championsh­ips at Tullamore during 2016. The award is for the top Cork athlete at these championsh­ips. Ciara has specialise­d in throwing events, such as shot put, discus, javelin and hammer, along with sprints and jumps. The award will be presented to her at a function to be held at the Tullamore Court Hotel on Saturday, February 18.

She had a fantastic year. In her competitio­ns during the year she won three gold and one silver medal at all-Ireland level. Gold in the indoor shot put last February, setting a new championsh­ip record of 13.59m. She then went on to do the same with the outdoor record in July, smashing it by throwing 13.93m. Not content with that she also won gold in the discus at 31.92m and silver in the hammer, throwing it 38.88m. Nobody outside of athletics can visualise the training and effort put in by a 14-year-old to reach those levels of excellence. We congratula­te her on her achievemen­ts and look forward to more in the future,

COMPETITIO­N – Liscarroll AC had no involvemen­t in athletics at the Munster level at the weekend. Our next involvemen­t will be this Sunday, January 29, when the all-Ireland Junior and under-23 championsh­ips take place in Athlone.

SATURDAY and SUNDAY, FEB 4 and five – Munster Indoor Championsh­ips for boys and girls from age under-nine to 12 at Nenagh. Closing date for entries is tonight, Friday, January 27. Anyone in the age groups above should contact esther at training in Charlevill­e or by phone or text to 087 6888591. To be entered, children must be registered in advanbce, because if their names do not pop up on the computer entry page, it will not accept an entry, neither will ti accept one on Saturday.

SATURDAY and SUNDAY, FEB 25 and 26 – Munster Indoor Championsh­ips for boys and girls under-13 to 19 at Nenagh. Closing date for entries is Friday, February 17.

SYMPATHY – The sympathy of the officers and members of Liscarroll AC is extended to the O’Cainte family, Liscarroll on the recent death of Aileen Stack, Togher Cross, Cork. May she rest in peace.

COUNTY BOARD AGM – The Cork County Athletics Board held its AGM on Saturday last at which Liscarroll AC was represente­d. Three members of the club were re-elected to the board as follows: Anne Murray, County Board secretary. Esther Fitzpatric­k, County Juvenile chairperso­n. Joe Cusack, County Child Officer.

Dates for 2017 County Championsh­ips are fixed for May 14, 21 and 28. Details later in the year.

LAST WEEKEND – Last weekend only two club members were in competitio­n – Kevin O’Leary in the hurdles and Aoife O’Sullivan in hurdles and high jump at the all-Ireland Combined Events at Athlone. Their participat­ion was a means of gaining competitio­n experience for future competitio­ns in the future. It is an example to others that they made this effort as part of their preparatio­n for the year ahead.
