Will ‘Cake Tables’ be a wedding trend in 2017?

-

OUR love/hate relationship with tasty and tempting cakes has been around for as long as we can remember. But did you ever imagine a day when they’d become a wedding trend? Probably not. But it’s all down to our love affair with TV baking shows and the newfound fascination we have for all things spongy and covered by a substantial layer of icing.

The traditional wedding day cake will always be with us, but variations in style, texture and taste have undergone a bit of a renaissance in recent years as couples look to transfer their TV baking fantasies into wedding day masterpieces that are the talk of guests. And why not.

Fancy cupcakes (queen cakes in my day!) are all the rage nowadays, as are decorative cakes, breads and pastries. In the recent past our ancestors would have baked out of necessity, but these days we have the luxury of baking for pure pleasure and there’s no better way of showing-off your home baking skills then by having a fancy, rustic-like cake table at your wedding.

It’s a great idea, it’s original, it looks smashing and it’ll be your own bespoke twist on the day. Who doesn’t like chocolate cake? Moreover, why not get all creative and make some weird and wonderful textures like cola, strawberry, chocolate and chili cupcakes? Apparently, the ‘Cake Table’ was very popular in the UK during the summer of 2016 and it looks like it’s going to catch on here in 2017.

Cake Tables are visually very attractive and even for those in attendance who might be watching their figure, it will still look an amazing feature. After all, we eat with our eyes, apparently! Tie a few coloured buntings overhead and bingo! You have a chic little Parisian patisserie or country fair type attraction. Think about it. You’ll be spoiling your guests while delightfully dazzling them with lots of edible coloring at the same time. Sounds good to me.
