Charleville Show AGM

-

CHARLEVILLE Agricultural Show 2016 was another outstanding success and was again nominated as the Show of the Year by both by the Irish Farmers Journal and the Irish Field.

So heard the attendance at the annual general meeting of the Society, from Chairman Ian Doyle, who lauded all concerned with organising the event.

Mr. Doyle said this had been achieved by the committee adhering to their ethos, which is to promote healthy competition in every aspect of the show. He thanked the members of the committee, the land owners who facilitate the event each year and without whose co-operation they could not stage the show, the Gardai and Red Cross personnel, and all the helpers who are vital to the running of the event.

The secretary, Eleanor Fleming, in her comprehensive report, said that all expectations were again surpassed. “The year was dominated by the need to secure an event licence from Cork County Council and it took a great deal of time and effort to prepare the application for submission on time,” she said. She thanked the HSE, local authority, Red Cross, Gardai and the Department of Agriculture for their co-operation in securing the licence.

Ms Fleming reported that all sections of the show contributed to the overall success of the weekend. These included the show jumping on both days, the agriculture and horticulture, adult cookery, arts and crafts, children’s arts and crafts, pony club games, pet’s corner, Macra na Feirme, the tug o-war, the world attempt at the sheaf tossing, which unfortunately did not succeed, the dog show, baby show, best dressed family, the display of old time crafts and entertainment from the local Craobh An Rath Comhaltas group, and the trade stands together with the huge vintage display, all gelled together to provide a wonderful weekend of spectacle and entertainment.

Ms Fleming thanked everybody for their efforts and expressed the wish that they would all return again for the 2017 event which is on the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, June 24/25 next.
