Stylish Boherbue students prove one persons junk can become another’s haute couture
IT was a great start to Valentines Day for Emma O’Keeffe and Erin Foley, students at Boherbue Comprehensive School, who received a surprise visit from Kanturk Bank of Ireland branch manager Cáit Irwin and youth co-ordinator and Siobhán O’Sullivan.
They presented the girls with a precious ‘silver ticket’ securing their places in the Munster regional final of 2017 The Bank of Ireland Junk Kouture competition, which will take place on March 10.
The students received the silver ticket for their entry ‘ The Winter Goddess’, which was modelled by Róisín Murphy
Now in its seventh year, the All-Ireland fashion and art competition for secondary schools challenges students to create unique, original and innovative outfits from recycled materials and junk.
Principal Mary O’Keeffe congratulated Emma and Erin on behalf of the entire school community. “This is a very prestigious acknowledgement of their entry as only eight schools in the Munster and Leinster regions were personally presented with their silver ticket,” said Ms O’Keeffe. “We wish them the very best at the finals.”
She also commended their teacher Eadaoin Cronin, and the following TY students who also submitted entries to the competition: Emma Moynihan and Ciara Linehan – ‘Fantasia’. Ned Blyth – ‘ The Phoenix’. Shannon Murphy, Sinead Feely and Laura O’Carroll - ‘Darling Doyenne’.
To help Emma and Erin progress further in the competition, the public can get involved by casting a vote for them through the Bank of Ireland Junk Kouture voting app - visit www.facebook.com/BOIstudents. Voting opens for one week before the regional final and individuals can cast a single vote every 24-hours.
