Disappointment for St Colmans as sensational Templemore run amok
Cadell caught a great aerial ball and found Ormonde who goaled. Barry Murphy was denied a point scoring chance by an interception by Sean Ryan. In the 21st minute Stephen Nolan picked out Jerry Kelly who sent over.
St Colmans had a very good point from long range by Niall O’Leary. Stephen Nolan added a point with Jerry Kelly making it 1-9 to 0-3. St Colmans keeper Eoin Davis saved well from Ray McCormack as both sides were off target.
In the 30th minute Diarmuid Linehan with a free made it 1-9 to 0-4. Lyndon Fairbrother replied at the other end. In injury time Brian McGrath pointed a ‘65 that had the winners 1-12 to 0-4 clear at the interval.
St Colmans introduced Richard Galvin and Greg Lardner for the second half. They tried very hard to get back on terms, However, they were unable to make any progress as it was the North Tipperary side who dominated throughout the field. David Larnder pointed with Lyndon Fairbrother replying from a free 1-14 to 0-5.
Templemore moved Jerry Kelly to full-forward. They had a point by Brian McGrath after good play by Kelly and Stephen Nolan. Kelly pointed in the
44th minute 1-16 to 0-5. Good play by Diarmuid Ryan led to a Brian McGrath point on the run.
In the 47th minute Stephen Nolan made it 1-18 to 0-5. McGrath added from a ‘65. Two minutes later Niall O’Leary goaled cutting the lead to 14 points 1-19 to 15. Immediately Brian McGrath netted at the other end and the same player added from a free 2-20 to 1- 5.
Colmans had a point by Diarmuid Linehan after good play by Barry Murphy. A number of substitutions were made with Fairbrother and Kelly completing the Templemore scoring.
After the game the cup was presented to Paddy Cadell. Templemore are now through to the All Ireland semi final on March 11. St Colmans are through to the All Ireland quarter final where they will meet St Brigid’s Loughrea on March 4.
