Match Report – Division two Football League Clyda 2-8 Douglas 1-11: Kanturk took full advantage of a strong second half showing as they overcame Clyda in Round two of the county football league by 2-9 to 0-10 in Mourneabbey.

Kanturk opened the scoring after just two minutes with Cian O’Sullivan, carrying on his good performance from last week, levelling matters in the fifth minute. Dan O’Callaghan pushed the home side in front with a ‘45 in the 10th minute. The sides were level again, 0-2 each, before a Conor Flanagan point had Clyda back in front. The see-saw nature of the game continued as a well worked Kanturk ended in goal, to put them ahead. The outstanding Paul Cronin then got in on scoring acting for Clyda, with four very impressive scores. Another Conor Flanagan free, saw Clyda lead 0-8 to 1-2 at the break.

On the resumption, it was Kanturk, who took over with three unanswered points to level the contest. Cian O’Sullivan got Clyda back in front before James Buckley’s hard work and direct running was rewarded with another point. But the final quarter really belonged to Kanturk as they hit 1-4 without a response. Kanturk finished 2-9 to 0-10 in front.

Next up for Clyda is a visit by Macroom to Mourneabbey in March.
