Mallow awards nominees unveiled
A LARGE attendance of more than 70 people gathered at The Corkman offices on Monday for the unveiling of the 2017 Mallow and District Sports and Leisure adult award nominees.
Awards committee spokesperson Roisin Moriarty opened proceedings by congratulating all of the nominees and thanking the adult award co-sponsors, The Corkman and Cathal Lombard Solicitors for their support.
Addressing the gathering INM Group Regionals West MD John Feerick, said he was delighted to see people come out to support the launch in such large numbers.
“This is a fantastic initiative. I have been speaking to members of the organising committee, including Bridie and Frances, who have been part of the organising committee for 27 and 24 years respectively. That in itself enforces what these awards are all about,” said Mr Feerick.
He said The Corkman was delighted to have been associated with the awards for the last number of years, emphasising the point that they acted as a great inspiration to many people across the local sporting and leisure fields.
“I want to congratulate Hall of Fame recipient Sean Ryan for the recognition he has received for the fantastic work he has done on behalf of the community over the years. Congratulations also to the winner of the Community Award, the Sean Moylan Park Residents Association for their fantastic efforts,” said Mr Feerick.
“Finally, I would like to pass on our sincere best wishers to Liam Ware. We have worked with him on many occasions over the past few years and he has always been an absolute gentleman to deal with. Of course, we also wish continued success to Roisin and all of the committee,” he added.
Cathal Lombard was equally warm in his praise of the awards, saying they epitomised all that was good about Mallow and the wider area.
“As an East Cork man who has been in Mallow for 13 years I have come to appreciate what a great community there is in Mallow and the surrounding districts,” said Mr Lombard.
He congratulated all of the nominees, saying it was a “nice pat on the back” in recognition of their hard work and effort.
“These awards are also a great way to recognise those who are involved in the organisation and administration of the many different locals groups, because this is what makes the heart of our community tick. They volunteer their time, sometimes with not a lot of appreciation, so it is nice to see their hard work recognised,” said Mr Lombard.
“Congratulations also to the Hall of Fame and Community Awards winners. I look forward to seeing you all at the awards ceremony,” he added.
Tickets for the gala awards ceremony in the Springfort Hall Hotel on Saturday, March 4, priced at €40 are available from Joe Dowling.
