Muskerry U-21 semifinals to be known this weekend

-

THE four semi-finalists of the Muskerry Under 21 (A) Football Championship could be known this weekend as the two final games in the round Robin section of the competition are down for decision.

Cill Na Martra and Kilmurry have qualified for the semi-finals from Section (2) and the semi-finalists from Section (1) could be determined by the weekend results.

Ballincollig had a change of fortune last week following their first round defeat at the hands of Éire Óg. They had home advantage when they faced Aghabullogue and a competent performance enabled they secure a six points victory.

The current favourites, Éire Óg, as expected were comfortable winners over Macroom so they have full points from their outings to date.

Ballincollig will be expected to have the edge on Macroom on Friday next at home so this their final outing could secure them a semi-final place but Aghabullogue will have something to say about same.

They will have home advantage when they face Éire Óg on Saturday and they will enter the fray as underdogs. They were also in that position last season when they faced Éire Óg in the Under 21 (B) Football final but rising to the occasion they gained an exciting victory.

They are a spirited football side who will be determined to stay in contention for a semi-final place and a victory on Saturday will have them on the same points total as both Éire Óg and Ballincollig. Éire Óg are fancied however in what should be an entertaining encounter.

On Monday next at a venue to be arranged Blarney who displayed good form on last weekend when they defeated Kilmichael will face Canovee in the Under 21 (B) Championship knock-out stage and the winners of same will play Donoughmore in the quarter-final.

Whoever is successful from that trio will have a semi-final encounter with Naomh Abán while Ballinora and Aghinagh will contest the second Under 21 (B) semi-final.
