Wealth of talent on show at Banteer’s big concert

- JOHN TARRANT

BRIGHT lights, music, dance, laughter and entertainment all the way was the order for the marvellous All Ireland winning Banteer Macra-hosted variety concert in Banteer Community Centre last Saturday night.

Billed as a show not to be missed, it didn’t disappoint as a capacity attendance saluted a slick moving production. MC Ronan Buckley introduced a diverse programme that culminated on Banteer Macra performing their “On the Road Again” featuring a dynamic combination of popular medley, music, dance and topical comedy that took the limelight in the National Macra Capers Final.

Variety emerged as the keynote, a song and dance show, liberally mixed with vintage comedy.

The tallented Casadh Ó Thuaidh opened the proceedings with a cultural orientated selection.

Ballydesmond artist Laura Dunlea sang as did Kelvin O’Connor, Julie Buckley and Nicholas O’Donoughue. Adding to the variety were the Lorraine Duggan School of Dancing, Boherbue and Freemount Set Dancers.

And fine individual musical performances from Billy Herlihy, Heather Healy and Helen O’Regan added to the enjoyment of an appreciative audience.

All that before the top of the bill, and a chance to see the Macra Oscar production, a strong line up parading colourful costumes with outstanding choreography intermingled with excellent chorus and sketch closed a terrific night.

Banteer Macra chairman Aidan Murphy thanked all involved on participating in addition to patrons.

Proceeds from the staging supported Banteer and Lyre Community Defibrillator Group, Banteer Badminton Club, Sunday’s Well Mass Rock, Banteer National School and Scoil Fhursa, Lyre National School.
