Sliabh Luachra Cycling Club seeks to pump up junior ranks

-

SLIABH Luachra Cycling Club welcome potential young recruits and their families to an open night in Teach Iosagáin, Rathmore (at the rear of Church) on Thursday, March 16 at 8pm.

Supported by a strong Duhallow presence, the club was established in July 2012 with the juvenile section of the club commencing in 2015. Juveniles are the long term development for the cycling club, potential members need to be in 5th or 6th class in national school or in secondary level education.

On offer are a number of experienced adults trained by Cycling Ireland in foundation coaching who will coach these new members. The plan for 2017 is to commence coaching the new members with a 4-6 week training block in a local national school ground.

During this period, the new members will learn various bike skills that will ensure they are confident, safe and courteous cyclists when on the road.

After several weeks of training, the kids can pursue leisure events locally on travelling in the club’s newly purchased club minibus and challenge themselves at longer distance and with a little bit more experience we will participate in competitive races for those who wish to do so.

Interested parties are invited to the open night for parents and new juvenile members is Thursday night March 16 in Teach Iosagain, Rathmore at 8pm with juvenile training to commence on the following Saturday, March 18 at 9am.

Further details are available from Tim Murphy, Juvenile Officer or Donie Kelleher, Chairman, 087-7501012
