‘Angus Day’ students have recipe for success

- SHEILA FITZGERALD

THE hundreds of students, along with staff, who queued up for lunch at Boherbue Comprehensive School on ‘Angus Day’ last week had no beef with the delicious taste of the burgers that were served up by the Transition Year Group who are currently getting ready to showcase their project in the Certified Irish Angus Beef Schools Competition.

Susan O’Connor, Laura O’Carroll, Anthony Buckley, Alan O’Connor, Owen Harty, and their team mascot ‘Boher Angus’ - who have been shortlisted in the Certified Irish Angus Beef Competition - have been busy since last September when they entered the competition which is based on promoting the advantages of Irish Angus for both farmers and consumers.

Initially they produced a three minute video demo exhibiting their plans for the competition and the role Agricultural Science plays in the school. The group next progressed to the interview stage which was held after Christmas at the South Court Hotel in Limerick. They are now heading to the exhibition stage in Croke Park on March 16 where they will showcase their promotional ideas to various judges from the Irish Agricultural Sector in a battle to win five Angus calves, which the winners will receive at the Ploughing Championships next September.

The students thank Anne’s Kitchen for cooking all the burgers to perfection. Following the mighty feast, students enjoyed Angus themed games which demonstrated the many advantages of Irish Angus.
