Weather plays havoc with fixtures
however on this day there was to be just one winner and that was to be the Deise men. 17-1.
Killian Corkery and Pa Connors scored the majors for the victors with David Hickey converting both as well as adding a penalty – all in the first half. Fermoy hit back after the break with tries from Pa Leahy and Eddie O’Connell with one conversion from Dylan Lacey. Fermoy battled all the way to the finish but ultimately this was to be Dungarvan’s day.
Castleisland entertained Mallow on Saturday night in the knowledge that a win would see them safe and credit to Castleisland they didn’t disappoint, seeing off the improving north Cork side by 26-7.
Tries from Kieran Downey, Mikey Cronin, William Casey and Colm Stack sealed the deal here for the home side with Brian Leonard kicking three conversions. Castleisland will again play in the J2 next season and will be looking to battle at the other end of the J2 table this time next year.
Mallow may be disappointed with this result, however, this season could have turned out far worse for the men from St Joseph’s Road as they struggled for long periods in the wrong half of the league. Mallow will look to get next season off to a much cleaner start which should mean they are in much better shape to compete at the right end of the J2 table.
Next weekend in the J2, Charleville will welcome Waterpark in their rescheduled fixture with the home side’s fate already secured after they were relegated in recent weeks. Charleville will look to go out of the J2 fighting so don’t be surprised to see the home side take the spoils in this one.
The locality’s only representative in the J1, Muskerry also have home advantage this weekend when they welcome Skibbereen to Ballyanly.
Muskerry are in serious danger of relegation however one good win could secure their status as a J1 side. This game against the West Cork side is a great opportunity to save Muskerry from a spot in the J2 next season however Skibb are unlikely to roll over.
