Newmarket GAA and ladies footballers have plenty to celebrate at victory social
NEWMARKET GAA and Ladies Football Club celebrated their successes on the playing fields with a most enjoyable dinner dance in the Devon Inn, Templeglantine last weekend.
Amongst the guests of honour were ladies Footballer of the Year Bríd Stack.
A rewarding season at Duhallow saw Newmarket land some key prizes, including the divisional Junior A Hurling league and the Junior B Football Championship.
And the 2017 season also began on a promising note, with Newmarket collecting the prestigious Tom Creedon Cup on turning the tables on Beál Ath’n Ghaoirthaidh after a defeat to the Gaeltacht team last season.
Seán Browne, representing club sponsor Newmarket Motors, presented the medals to the successful teams.
For good measure, Newmarket ladies had reason to toast the achievement of the past year after a memorable campaign. A winning run yielded Newmarket silverware after being crowned Co. Junior C championship winners, and the way this talented side went about their business became a source of delight for dedicated supporters.
And the future is bright for the flourishing club - a minor side enjoyed a tremendous run ‘ til late in the season.
Fund-raising is important in every club and plaudits were extended to all involved in the Newmarket GAA promoted Strictly Newmarket with glamour and fancy footwork adding to the spectacle.
Club Chairman Neilly McCarthy extended thanks to a dedicated organising committee and spoke of the importance of club development, and the fundraising required to cover new features in the clubhouse, dressing room and gym.
“The facilities meet the demands of our teams and it’s an important investment to secure the future of our club on encouraging our youth to play and enjoy our national games and represent their club with pride”, he said.
