CLYDA ROVERS AGAA

DIVISION two FOOTBALL LEAGUE – Macroom 0-10 Clyda 0-5: Clyda’s latest outing in Division two of the County League ended in disappointment in Macroom on Sunday last.

Playing into a strong wind, Clyda opened the scoring through the lively Séamus Ronayne with a point from a tight angle. Macroom then made maximum use of the strong win and made light of the slippery underfoot conditions to hit Clyda for six points in a row, to open up a significant gap.

Clyda were then dealt a huge blow when Dan O’Callaghan had to depart the scene injured. But Clyda were not to be deterred and after a number of narrow misses, including a few goal chances, Clyda eventually rediscovered their scoring form and finished the half strongly with scores from Conor O’Sullivan, Cian O’Sullivan and Paul Cronin. Macroom led 0-6 to 0-4 at half time.

Clyda were fastest out of the blocks with Paul Cronin scoring a free following a foul on substitute Johnny O’Sullivan. But the second half belonged to Macroom, who dealth with the conditions admirably.

Try as they might there was no way through for Clyda as they pushed hard for late scores. Macroom winning by 0-10 to 0-5. Next up for Clyda is an away trip to Newcestown on March 18.
