A MUSICAL EVENING OF CLASSICS AND FAVOURITES – A Musical Evening of Classics and Favourites with the band of first Brigade, Cork will be held in St Colman’s Cathedral Cobh on Friday, March 10, at 7.30 p.m. Tickets are €20 each. KNOCK/LOUGH DERG three DAY TRIP – Due to the success of last year’s one day retreats to Lough Derg there are three different date choices on offer for 2017. May 13 to May 15th, August 22 to August 24th and September 5 to September seventh. Day 1: Visit Knock and overnight in Bundoran. Day 2: Retreat on Lough Derg and overnight in Bundoran. NEW PARISH SAFEGUARDING COMMITTEE – A new Parish Safeguarding Committee was appointed for three years and has held its first constituent meeting. The members of the committee are Jim Codd, Kate Crowley, Ena O’Regan and Geraldine Egan. The newly appointed contact persons are Jim Codd and Geraldine Egan 086 3016859.
NEW FINANCE COMMITTEE – In accordance with Canon 537 of the Code of Canon Law a new Finance Committee was constituted on January 7 to run for three years. The Finance Council assists the parish priest in the administration of the goods temporal of the parish, by their advice and counsel. The members of the new committee are Geraldine Mac
Namara, Jerome O’Keeffe, Kieran O’Regan, Dave Ryan, Breda Crowley and Maurice O’Riordan.
FIRST CONFESSION – The Sacrament of First Confession for the class preparing for First Holy Communion will be celebrated on March 22 at 7.30 p.m. in the church.

CHURCH GATE COLLECTIONS – No Church Gate Collection taken up at St Mary’s Church, Ballyhea is endorsed by the parish. All such collections are made on foot of a permit, issued by the Chief Superintendent of the Garda Síochána, at Fermoy. Permits require those taking up Church Gate Collections to do so on the public highway, and in a manner which does not obstruct or importune others using the highway. Any group or organisation intending to collect outside the church gates are asked to present copies of their permits in the sacristy, together with copies of letters of authorisation from those collecting on their behalf. This should be done before the collection commences.

There will be an open day in early June where pupils/parents will get the opportunity to view their classroom, meet the staff and receive an information pack (booklists, uniform etc.) for the new school year. MEN ON THE MOVE
Men on the Move returns every Monday and Thursday in the GAA hall. Sessions are Mondays 7.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. and Thursday 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. going forward. Please note open to beginners and new people as sessions will be tailored to fitness levels where possible.

Fight for Fionn is a charity set up to raise funds for Fionn Barry, a two-year-old boy from Ballyhea, who has a seriously debilitating and life limiting illness and needs 24-hour care. RACE NIGHT – The annual Ballyhea GAA race night took place at the Corbett Court. Thanks to all involved in the race night, the organisers and pay out, the tote ladies, to all who sold horses and those who bought horses, the people wo got ads for the race card and those who put in ads, the Corbett Court for the use of their premises, thanks to everyone that turned up on the night and to anyone that helped in any way to make it another very successful race night.
MEMBERSHIP – Club membership is now due, €40 per adult, €20 per student and €80 family membership. CAMOGIE news The camogie club is once again collecting Used Clothes, Old Curtains, Bedlinen, Footwear, Bags and Books. Contact any member of the committee.
Well done to Róisín Killeen and the Cork Minors on beating Tipperary 3-5 to 1-8 in round two of the all-Ireland series last Saturday. Also to manager George Fitzgibbon and selector Frances Killeen.
Congratulations also to Jade Hooper and Cork under-16s on their great win over Limerick in the Munster semi-final.
FITZGIBBON CUP – Congratulations to Mikey Browne, who was a member of the Mary Immaculate College panel which won the Fitzgibbon Cup Senior Colleges hurling title for the second year in a row.

Ballyhea Community Alert has successfully set up a Text Alert Network to immediately alert our community when an incident occurs. Prompt information to and from Gardaí deters criminal activity. The 45 Drive will continue at the Corbett Court every Wednesday night at 9.15 p.m. so all welcome.
