Mallow all set for a festive St Patrick’s Day

-

THE committee of the Mallow St. Patrick’s Day Parade are delighted with the response from local commumity groups and local businesses to their appeal for participation in this year’s parade in Mallow.

Grand Marshall Rosemary O’Neill, daughter of Boston’s favourite son, Tip (Thomas P) O’Neill, will be arriving in Ireland early next week and is looking forward to her participation in the parade. There are some 25 groups entered in this year’s parade, which is well ahead of other years.

Treasurer of the organising committee, Mrs Hannah Sheahan, said ‘I am very happy with the support of our sponsors. It is not easy in business in these times and this year, although I have not been able to personally call around to the businesses in the town, all seem to contribute as much as is expected and, in particular, our committee is very grateful for the continued financial support of Cork County Council and Mallow Credit Union.

“This is the 31st year of the parade in Mallow and I must say that I am proud to have been in the first committee all that 31 years ago.

“The support of the Gardaí, Civil Defence, Cork County Council Engineering Section and the Red Cross is most gratifying.”

Music and entertainment will commence at 1.20pm when the young musicians of Cuisle Avondhu will perform on the reviewing platform outside Mallow Credit Union.

The parade itself will commence from Mallow Town Park at 2.30pm sharp. Groups are asked to assemble at the Town Park from 1.45pm onwards.

The parade will wind its way from the West End down along Davis Street.

Barriers will be in place to safeguard the thousands that turn out each year. It is hoped that many of the participating groups will reflect the theme of this year’s parade, namely: ‘Mallow, A Great Place to Live in’.

Come to Mallow, bring your family and enjoy a great afternoon of free entertainment.
