MACROOM JUVENILE GAA UPDATE

-

UNDER-16s

THE U-16s lost a league match to Ibane Gaels in Barryroe last Thursday. The score was 4-10 to 3-10. It was disappointing, as they led at half time by four points (1-8 to 1-4) but should have been ahead by more as two great chances for goals were squandered.

Macroom came under pressure in the second-half, conceding three goals but did respond well with two goals, both scored by Bradley O’Shea. A couple of late points were conceded which eventually put the game beyond reach. The other goal scorer was Eoin Cahill.

UNDER-14s

The U-14s welcomed Clondrohid for a challenge game in the Castle Grounds on Sunday evening.

Initially Clondrohid were on top and went 0-5 ahead after 15 minutes. Some positional changes improved matters.

A great goal by Mark Hunt settled Macroom, and they led 2-2 to 0-5 at half-time. Macroom controlled the second-half and played good football, running out commfortable winners against a good side. The final score was Macroom 4- 6 to 0- 6 for Clondrohid.

All the boys played with great heart. Ferenc Lazlo scored a wonder point; Daragh Neville kept a clean sheet, and Jack Sexton and Dylan Wenger played exceptionally well throughout. Seán De Lacey scored 2-3.

Macroom entertained Aghinagh in a challenge game last Tuesday in the Castle Grounds. They gave a good performance and the match finished Macroom 2-12 to 5-3 for Aghinagh. U7s/U8s: Some 27 players braved the elements and enjoyed a great morning of football in Rusheen. Conditions were difficult at times but the lads were fantastic. They played Clondrohid, Naomh Abán, Duarigle Gaels, Canovee, Knocknagree and the home club Aghinagh.

Aghinagh deserve great credit for facilitating the blitz.

A huge ‘well done’ to all the players and to the parents who came and supported the stars of the future.

COACHING MASTERCLASS:

James McCarthy, GDA, took Wednesday’s U-14 training session and gave a master class to 10 of the underage coaches and the coaches learned a lot.

He emphasised as many football touches as possible, first touch, movement, and playing with heads up.
