Charlevill­e seal Under-21 quarter-final berth

when Ryan Fowley soloed through for a very good point. Charlevill­e gained supremacy. Jack Callaghan, Finbarr Cagney, Cathal Carroll did well in defence with Jack Barry also in good form at midfield.

Their forwards were in regular supply and Darren Butler on the edge of the square was in devastatin­g form. Darragh Fitzgibbon kicked two great points with Cathal O’Carroll pointing a free and Ciaran Carey with a point helping the winners to lead 0-7 to 0-2 clear after 13 minutes.

Buttevant improved. Good play by Kevin Lenahan led to a point by Niall Crowley. Ryan Fowley scored a marvellous point. Good play by Darragh Fitzgibbon led to a Darren Butler point.

Buttevant kept in touch with two points by Kevin Lenahan. Mark Lenahan also pointed and the lead was down to a point 0-8 to 0- 7.

Impressive Jack Callaghan and Mark Lenahan exchanged a point with Charlevill­e holding a narrow lead at the break 0-9 to 0- 8.

On the resumption good play by Darragh McEniry led to a well executed point by Conor Buckley. Niall Crowley replied for Buttevant. Buttevant keeper Ronan Donovan made some massive saves all through the game.

He forced a ‘45 when Darren Butler was put clean through. The ‘45 by Darren Butler was pointed by Conor Buckley 0-11 to 0- 9. Good play by Conor Buckley led to a fine point by Sean Buckley.

Darren Butler again came close to a goal but Ronan Donovan made another vital save. Ryan Fowley followed with a great point.

The winners goal came in the 42nd minute when Darragh Fitzgibbon put Butler through who made no mistake. Both sides swopped a point. Good play by David Walsh and Niall Crowley led to a foul on Ryan Fowley and a penalty awarded.

Fowley converted the penalty and the lead was down to two points.

In the closing moments Buttevant tried very hard for a second goal. Charlevill­e defence held firm and they moved three points clear when Aaron O’Connor worked well for Darren Butler who pointed.

A minute later Mark Lenahan put Ryan Fowley through for another point as the game entered injury time. Time ran out and it was Charlevill­e who advanced to meet Mitchelsto­wn in the quarter-final.
