Grants to help ‘paint the town’

-

THE owners and tenants of premises in five North Cork towns have been again offered the chance to avail of financial assistance from the council to help spruce up the outside of their buildings.

Under the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District Painting, Signage and Improvement scheme, owners/tenants or local Tidy Towns groups in Mallow, Kanturk, Buttevant, Millstreet and Newmarket can seek funding to help offset the costs of improving the overall appearance of buildings.

This year the scheme has been updated tackle the issue of dereliction, with particular emphasis on Mallow’s Davis Street and Percival Street in Kanturk.

Under the scheme successful applicants will be able to avail of a grant of up to 50% of the cost of painting the façades of buildings.

There will also be an increased grant of up to 60% for entire streets (10 or more adjacent buildings on a particular street), which will be given priority over individual applications.

Grant eligibility will also include flower baskets and the replacement of shop front signage.

The council has stipulated that in order to qualify for the scheme all local authority charges must be paid up-to-date.

Application forms and further information on the scheme are available from Cork County Council Offices in Kanturk, Annabella, Mallow, Millstreet and Newmarket.

The closing date for receipt of applications is 19th May, 2017.
