Youth awards focus on the qualities that matter most
CDYS Youth Work Ireland held its second Youth Recognition Awards Night 2017 in Mallow Youth Centre on last Wdnesday, with members of youth clubs based in Mallow, Fermoy and Midleton attending the event. The Youth Recognition Awards night was designed by the young people of CDYS for young people. The awards categories selected were to identify and acknowledge young people who had displayed behaviour that were valued by young people, such as being a supportive friend to someone who had to overcome personal obstacles in their life, an award for those who showed commitment and enthusiasm for their youth project and who encouraged and supported others, a community involvement award and an award for a group who worked well at achieving their goals. Over 80 young people received nominations and were recognised on the night. There was a special award given to Dillon Lynch for his achievement in being the youngest person to take on the 32 County High Point Challenge. This involved him climbing the highest point of each of Ireland’s counties and, at the tender age of just nine years, Dillon was one of the youngest in Ireland to achieve this feat. Dillon also raised an amazing amount of money for his Coder Dojo Club which is coordinated by CDYS. A great night was had by all who attended and music was provided by Mikey Fox and young people who attend the music groups. Cait Kerrigan also sang her original song ‘Monsters in My Head’ which will be performed next Saturday at the Irish Youth Music Awards in Croke Park.
