Footballers face into c’ship against Mitchelstown

THE Kanturk Intermediate Footballers face into championship action on Saturday 22nd April with a difficult tie against North Cork rivals Mitchlestown at Churchtown with a 6.45pm start.

Kanturk got the better of their rivals in round two of last year’s championship and will be hoping for a similar result on this occasion.

A titanic battle is expected as the north Cork side will be hoping to reverse last year’s result and with Kanturk having a number of injury concerns a tight contest will ensue. FEILE PEIL: Wolfe Tones (Kanturk) made their exit from the Feile Peil U14 football at the semi-final stage on Monday last 17th April when losing to Ibane Gaels at Ballincollig on a score line of 2-5 to 3-4.

The Kanturk lads raced into a 1-3 to 0-1 lead before Ibane Gaels took the initiative to lead 2-2 to 1-3 at the interval. A Kanturk goal early in the second half restored our lead but Ibane gaels proved too strong and ran out winners.

In the final, Ballinora got the better of Ibane Gaels by 5-4 to 3-3.

In other Juvenile results, our U12 hurlers had a 2-10 to 1-3 league victory over Banteer while our Minor hurlers lost out to Killshannig on a 1-10 to 2-20 score line.

CORK COUNTY MINOR FOOTBALL:

All in Kanturk GAA were thrilled to see Ryan Walsh play an important role for Cork Minor footballers in their Munster football champion-ship quarter final tie with Tipperary on Wednesday last 12th April.

Indeed, there was a strong representation from Duhallow with the centre forward, Evan Murphy from the Dromtarriffe club along with four subs, one each from Kiskeam, Ballydesmond, Mill-street and Knocknagree.

Cork now await a semi-final on 10th May. Fixtures: Thursday 20th April, Rebel Og North U14’A’HL at Kanturk, Cucullains (Kanturk) v Fermoy 7.15pm. Rebel Og North U18’A’HL at Millstreet, Cucullains (Kanturk) v Keal Gaels 7pm.
