MILLSTREET MARKS EASTER WITH A RANGE OF EVENTS
MILLSTREET recalled the deeds of those that fought for freedom coupled with a number of events marking Cruinniú na Casca celebrating contemporary Irish culture and creativity in a diverse schedule of events over Easter.
Events that changed the course of Irish history were recalled in an impressive programme marking the 101st Anniversary of the 1916 Rising and those that gave their life during the War of Independence. Following a parade through the town, historian Ryle Dwyer delivered the traditional Easter Sunday oration at a monument in the Town Square built in 1927.
A wreath was laid to acknowledge those who sacrificed their lives for independence and particularly five natives from the greater Millstreet region.
Bank Holiday Easter Monday acknowledged the inaugural nationwide “Crinniú na Cásca” a celebration of Irish Heritage and Art . The schedule focused on events for families and children, Millstreet Museum presented an illustrated account of its many treasures and historic items at its base in Carnegie Hall followed by a guided tour of Millstreet Town where focus was placed on its many significant locations by Millstreet Museum curator Seán Radley.
Completing a hectic day was a visit to Drishane Estate for an International event with emphasis on a family fun afternoon.
