STRICTLY COME DANCING

Cristín, Michael and Rachel Ní Dheasúna are widely known, following their many wins in various sports, but now, big sister, Louise has also become a champion. She took gold at the Strictly Come Dancing competitio­n in the Cork County Boxing Board’s fundraiser at the Common’s Inn, Blackpool last weekend. Míle comhghaird­eas.

SYMPATHY

Pobal Chill na Martra and especially Muintear Drom Réidh were truly saddened by the premature death of Michael Leahy following a short illness. The late Michael was widely known in farming circles, but he was even better known in the ploughing community, both as a competitor and coach. Interment took place in Reilig Lachtaín Naofa following Requiem Mass in the Parish Church. Sympathy is extended to his wife Anne, son John, sister Joan, brother Seán, nieces, nephews and extended family. Suaimhneas síoraí dá anam uasal.

ANNUAL WALK TO SHRONE

The 15th annual Pilgrim Walk to the City at Shrone at the foot of the Paps will take place this year on Sunday, May 7, leaving Cronin’s Farm, Clohina at 7.30 a.m. and the Mills, Baile Mhúirne at 8.45 a.m. As this walk takes in trails and forest roads, good walking boots are vital. to send one member to this meeting and further meetings to help to bring this plan to fruition, Any suggestion­s on how to maximise the hall will be taken on board and looked at as we put together this five-year plan to develop and refurbish the hall,

Congratula­tions to the under-12 camogie team on their first visit to Croke Park last Monday to take part in all-Ireland Blitz. Great success on the day, well done. Great day out for all those who travelled with them for this memorable occasion.

Winter Competitio­ns-In the opening score, Ned Kelleher had a last shot win over Eugene O’Sullivan. Paddy O’Keeffe had a last shot win over Danny Murphy and had a bowl of odds to spare over Donal Cashman. Eugene O’Sullivan and Ned Kelleher won a score off each other. Both went to last shot play offs.

Jackie Daly Shield – Ned Kelleher teamed up with Paddy O’Keeffe to record a bowl of odds win over Danny Murphy and Donal Cashman. In the return score, Kelleher and O’Keeffe produced record bowling to put their names up on the leader board with a bowl of odds win over Murphy and Cashman. National. With over 300 entrants this competitio­n will be keenly followed throughout the sporting year, culminatin­g with the 2017 Cork County Senior Hurling and Football championsh­ips and the outcome of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Group D. DIVISION two FOOTBALL LEAGUE – Clyda 1-14 Naomh Aban 0-9: Clyda enjoyed a good win over Naomh Aban in Ballyvourn­ey on Easter Sunday in Division 2 of the Cork County Football League.

Conor O’Sullivan opened Clyda’s account in the second minute with a well taken point, only to be cancelled out immediatel­y by a Naomh Aban point. Conor Flanagan (free) and Paul Cronin followed with a score each to push Clyda into a lead. Naomh Aban then enjoyed their best period of the game with three unanswered points, to go 0-4 to 0-3 into the lead. A few Naomh Aban goal chances went a begging, with Cian Conway showing all his agility in the Clyda goal. Conor O’Sullivan then levelled proceeding­s before Cian O’Sullivan and Seán O’Connell pushed Clyda into the lead.

Conor Flanagan kicked his second free before Paul Cronin brilliantl­y setup Cian O’Sullivan for a peach of a goal. Naomh Aban had the last score of the half to leave the score 1-7 to 0-5 in favour of Clyda at the break.

It was Naomh Aban, who got the first score of the second half, before Conor O’Sullivan, Cian O’Sullivan and Conor Flanagan kicked Clyda further into the lead.

The final quarter nearly all belonged to Clyda. Firstly, Paul Cronin and Seán O’Connell pushed the away side further ahead, before Cronin kicked over after a brilliant team movement. Substitute Johnny O’Sullivan had the final say with a good score in the dying minutes.
