Macroom FC Under-12 girls setting the standard as they hit Park United for six

-

THE girls are having an unbelievable season. Their latest league win was away to Park Utd of Mitchelstown last weekend.

Impressively, a 6-1 result keeps Macroom battling on two fronts.

They still have a great chance of forcing a play-off in the league and they will also contest the cup final in Turner’s Cross in May.

Academy boys group travelled to Moneygourney last weekend for a non-competitive fixture against hosts Douglas Hall.

All players and supporters enjoyed the experience. It will no doubt give them further encouragement as they continue to learn the game and have great fun at the same time.

The schoolgirls were also off on their travels. They made the trip to take on Lakewood Ath. With an excellent turnout from players, Macroom fielded two teams, and the whole squad gave a great account of themselves.

The schoolboys were away to Carrigaline in the last 16 of the local cup and were unlucky to lose 2-1 in extra-time. Daniel Cotter’s cross and Eoin Guiney’s pressure had Macroom one up through an own goal. The home side levelled and then won the tie with a last minute extra-time goal. Disappointment for the squad but a fantastic performance nonetheless.

In the schoolboy’s cup, Kinsale paid a visit to Murrayfield and were heavily defeated 5-1 by a rampant home side.

Daniel Buckley and Oisin Shovlin had Macroom in the driving seat, leading 2-0 at half-time. Shovlin was in great form and he was on target twice more to secure his hat trick.

The scoring was completed by Aaron O’Donovan as Macroom coasted into the quarter final. Best were Dylan Twomey Prendeville, Shane Meaney and Daniel Cotter.

Macroom are at home to Mallow Utd in the last eight this Friday, April 28.
