Eddie Dunbar pipped for big win in Italy while youths take cup in Currow

-

EDDIE Dunbar was denied a big win on Sunday in a 1.2-ranked race in Italy called the GP Industria and Commercio.

Nicola Conci got the win with Australian Jai Hind-ley pipping Dunbar for second.

Winner of the U23 Tour of Flanders two weeks ago, Eddie Dunbar was 3rd in the 1.2-ranked GP Industria and Commercio in Italy and he took the climbers’ prize in the same race.

He was the man of the race in Italy with two devastating attacks in the final circuit of the 171.8km event. The finishing circuit included a tough 1.1km ramp and the Irishman attacked on it on the penultimate lap. He is now heading back home to take it easy and get refreshed for his next race which will be the Ronde de l’Isard from May 18th to 21st in France.

Locally at the weekend our cyclists were in Currow for the Drumm Cup. A large numbers of under age and seniors lined out. In the U12 race, we had Stephan Sheehan 1st unplaced u11, a great result for him. Quillan Donnelly took a great win with Ewen McConville a close 2nd and Sean Tarrant finished a very strong 5th with Michael No-lan finishing in the bunch. This was a great race for the boys and showed some great team work.In the U14 category Patrick Morley was 1st unplaced u13. David Shine was 2nd after riding most of the race solo with Luke Moynihan finishing well in 7th place.

The u16 race was dominated by strong Kanturk riders, After the 1st lap Tom Mori-arty was away with one other rider. Tom broke away and rode the final 3 laps solo crossing the line with an extensive lead ahead of the bunch. Denis Murphy was 2nd ahead of the chasing bunch with Sean Barrett 3rd. Tom O Connor was in 5th place after getting a puncture on the 2nd last lap and fought hard to get back to the bunch. Daniel Yonhin was 8th with Luke Thompson in 10th position and Arnaud Dumoulin finishing in the bunch. Lucy O Donnell was 1st girl u16.

In the Senior section, we had Billy Allen finishing a super 12th in the A4 sec-tion.

Cian Leahy, Noel Moloney and Shane Moloney competed in the A3 sec-tion. Well done to all!

This weekend sees the O’Leary Stone Kanturk Cycling Club hosting their annual 3 day event. This event brings cyclists from all over the country with the U16 stage 1 and 2 being Youth Olympic Qualifiers.

We would ask the supporters, followers and locals to follow the instructions from the Gardaí and Stewards to ensure that we have a safe weekend of cycling. We would like to thank the locals for their support in this event each year.
