Kanturk Intermediate Hurlers in Championship action
KANTURK Hurlers begin their challenge in the Cork Premier IHC with a difficult tie against Castlelyons at Castletownroche on Sunday next 30th April with a 3.30pm start. It’s an eight day turn around for Kanturk after their football exploits.
Kanturk and Castlelyons met in championship 2015 at the same venue and the East Cork side came out on top of a close exciting contest after Kanturk lost the services of Lorcain Mc Loughlin to injury during the opening half.
On this occasion Kanturk will be without the injured Aidan Walsh, and despite disjointed preparation due to di-visional and club football commitments, will be hoping of giving a good account of themselves. Castlelyons have prepared well with league victories over Castlemartyr, Kildorrery, Valley Rovers and Tracton.
Kanturk for their part have one league victory over neighbours Meelin, and have been forced to field very under strength sides due to inter county activities.
Intermediate Football; Kanturk Intermediate footballers made a winning start to their championship challenge when repeating their second round victory of last year over Mitchelstown at Churchtown on Saturday last.
Kanturk were dealt a blow after seven minutes when Aidan Walsh had to leave the field of play through injury.
Despite this setback Kanturk built up a six point lead during the opening half only to be reeled in by enterprising play from their opponents and the sides were level at the in-terval.
A Kanturk goal after seven minutes of the second half gave them the cushion to push on for victory and a strong defensive display gave them the platform to close out a 2-15 to 1-13 victory and book a place in round 2A of the championship against Rockchapel in about six weeks time.
Juvenile Affairs; In underage affairs, Wolfe Tones (Kanturk) had a comprehensive league win over Lyre along with our U14 hurlers having a similar victory over Fermoy while our Minor hurlers went under to Keal Gaels at Millstreet.
Fixtures, Sunday 30th April at Castletownroche, Cork PIHC 1st Rd; Kanturk v Cas-tlelyons at 3.30pm
Result; Cork IFC 1st Rd; Kanturk 2-15 Mitchelstown 1-13.
