Kanturk have too much for ’Town

THIS game on Saturday evening was closely contested all through. Both sides had their moments but overall it was Kanturk who recorded a deserved victory.

The Duhallow side lost their key midfielder Aidan Walsh to a shoulder injury after just five minutes. In these early minutes Jordan Fullerton Kanturk keeper was called upon to make good saves from Sean O’Sullivan and Pat Magee.

The opening score came in the eighth minute when Ian Walsh and Mark Healy worked well for the outstandin­g John McLoughlan who kicked over. John Browne added a point with James Fitzpatric­k working well with John McLoughlan who placed Cian Clernon for a 14th minute point.

Mitchelsto­wn had their opening score in the 15th minute when midfielder­s Sean Walsh and Shane Beston combined to put Shane Cahill in for a point. ‘Town hit a good patch and Lorcan Finn and Shane Cahill worked well for Pat Magee who kicked over.

The sides were level a minute later when Dylan Reidy-Price kicked a marvellous point. Kanturk responded well. Ryan Walsh placed impressive Paul Walsh for a point. The winners goal came after poor kickout for Mitchelsto­wn was gathered by Cian Clernon who made no mistake from close range. Mitchelsto­wn recovered very well from this setback. James Sheehan pointed a free and Sean O’Sullivan placed Sean Walsh who pointed in the 19th minute. Paul Walsh pointed for Kanturk after a four man attack.

The Duhallow side moved double scores ahead by the 23rd minute 1-7 to 0-5. Lorcan McLoughlan kicked a fine point that opened up a six point lead. Mitchelsto­wn rallied very well.

James Sheehan put Shane Cahill in for a goal and Dylan Reidy Price with a rapid point closed the gap to the minimum 1-8 to 1-7. A foul on impressive Sean O’Sullivan led to an equalising pointed free by James Sheehan.

In the dying moments Shane Cahill edged ‘Town ahead. Deep in injury time Lorcan McLoughlan worked very well for Cian Clernon who levelled at the break 1-9 each.

On the changeover Ian Walsh had two early wides for Kanturk. Mitchelsto­wn took the lead again when Kevin Wrenn, Shane Beston, Sean O’Sullivan and Beston again combined for Sean Walsh who kicked over.

Good play by the outstandin­g Lorcan O’Neill to Mark Healy produced a levelling point by Paul Walsh. In the 38th minute Mark Healy and Cian Clernon worked a good movement that led to the inrushing Healy taking the return pass and making it 2-10 to 1-10.

This was a huge score for the Duhallow side in a close game. James Sheehan replied with a point under pressure. Kanturk had a goal bound movement broken up by Kevin Wrenn

The winners regained the goal lead when John McLoughlan, Alan Sheehy, Lorcan O’Neill and Alan O’Keeffe were all involved in placing Ian Walsh for a decisive point. Kanturk used the short passing at speed out of defence and Mark Healy added another point.

In the 45th minute a foul on John McLoughlan led to an Ian Walsh pointed free that opened up a five point lead. Dylan ReidyPrice kicked a great point as the game entered the final quarter 2-13 to 1-12. Mitcheslto­wn made a few great runs through the centre with Lorcan Finn, Shane Beston, Shane Cahill, and Kevin Wrenn doing very well. In the 53rd minute James Sheehan with another free cut the lead to a goal 2-13 to 1-13.

The winners sealed victory with late points by Ian Walsh (free) and Mark Healy.
