Mallow and Kilshannig come through tough campaign

FOR the first time since the Under-21 Football Championsh­ip was introduced back in the 1960s there has been no team from the Avondhu Division in the ‘A’ grade competitio­n. The seven main teams, Fermoy, Mallow, Mitchelsto­wn, Kilshannig, Charlevill­e, Buttevant and Clyda Rovers all compete in Under 21 ‘B’ competitio­n, which is a very competitiv­e championsh­ip with little between most teams.

There have been a few surprise results along the way. Kilshannig defeated Charlevill­e in Glantane by 4-10 to 0-11. Their 4-10 by Darragh O’Sullivan 2-1, Dylan O’Callaghan 1-2, Diarmuid O’Sullivan 1-0, Jack Kearney 0-3, Tony Brennan 0-1, Jerome Murphy 0-1, Bill Curtin 0-1, Alan O’Connell 0-1.

Mallow overcame Mitchelsto­wn with a late rally by 1-17 to 2- 13. Their 1-17 came from Sean Hayes 1-8, Craig Lynch 0-3, Bobby Kennedy 0-2, Anthony Bowles 0-1, Darragh Moynihan 0-1, Peadar Hennessy 0-1, Ben Slattery 0-1. Mitchelsto­wn then defeated Clyda Rovers with Kilshannig receiving a bye. Fermoy had a close win over Buttevant.

In the knockout stages it was Mitchelsto­wn v Charlevill­e. Clyda Rovers, who received a first round bye, had a round two game with Kilshannig. Kilshannig came out on top by 1-11 to 0-10. Their marksmen were Jack Kearney 1-0, Diarmuid O’Sullivan 0-3, Darragh O’Sullivan 0-2, Killian Murphy 0-1, Joseph Cronin 0-1, Tony Brennan 0-1, Dylan O’Callaghan 0-1, Jack Twomey 0-1, Killian Murphy 0-1. The Kilshannig side were now through to a semi-final with Charlevill­e who defeated Mitchelsto­wn by 1-11 to 0- 13.

Last weekend Kilshannig with a late rally overcame Charlevill­e in the semi-final by 3-10 to 0-15. Their scores came from Darragh O’Sullivan 0-4, Jack Twomey 1-1, Conor McMahon 1-1, Dylan O’Callaghan 1-0, Killian Murphy 0-1, Tony Brennan Diarmuid O’Sullivan 0-1.

Fermoy faced Mallow in a semi-final that went to extra-time before Mallow came out on top by 4-13 to 0-21.
