Dromtariffe triumph over Castlemagner in Ducon Cup

-

Dromtariffe 2-12 Castlemagner 1-9

DROMTARIFFE ground down a stubborn Castlemagner in a cracking Ducon Cup encounter at Rathcoole.

From a contest that ebbed and flowed, it wasn’t until the second half had reached an advanced stage that Dromtariffe’s experience and better team work began to reap the dividends.

For much of the opening half, the sides were evenly matched, Dromtariffe points to Gearóid Murphy and Daniel O’Keeffe answered by Timmy Murphy and Donal Gayer. Dromtariffe forfeited a chance of a key opportunity, failing to convert from a penalty that left a stalemate position of 0-5 apiece at the break.

Castlemagner held the upperhand upon the resumption, the play of Gayer, David O’Mahony and Bryan Barry creating an impression. Upfront, Murphy split the uprights before an opportunist Diarmuid O’Mahony goal pushed Castle’ four ahead.

Dromtariffe roared back into the proceedings after O’Keeffe placed Gearóid Murphy for a fine goal. Now the trend shifted to Dromtariffe, Adam Buckley fetching superbly in the centre, well supported by Seán Howard, Michael Healy and O’Keeffe.

Though Barry tied up the game with a Castlemagner point, Dromtariffe’s game carried more menace, rewarded on a smashing goal by Shane Collins before a trio of points confirmed the destination of the spoils.

Knocknagree 3-16 Dromtariffe 3-9

A STORMING opening half paved the way for Knocknagree to continue on their winning ways in the Ducon Cup by overcoming Dromtariffe at Rathcoole.

Favoured by the breeze, Knocknagree operated with a brand of open and attacking football that yielded goals from Pádraig Collins and Danny Cooper to assume a comfortable 2-11 to 1-2 position.

In fairness to Dromtariffe, their response to the predicament was impressive on chipping away at the arrears yet Knocknagree kept the scoreboard ticking over sufficiently to ensure a deserved win.

All through the hour, the victors held control, performing with real precision and dismantled Lyre’s structure. The pick of the opening half’s action saw Paul O’Connor net for a 1-8 to 0-2 advantage at the break.

A depleted Lyre, not helped by a heavy dual involvement and injuries relied on Barry Murphy for scores. However Knocknagree operated at a different level and a Tomás Cooper goal sealed another two points on the league table.
