Invite from Millstreet centre to help celebrate revamp
THERE’S a tempting invitation open to everyone from Millstreet Day Care Centre this Sunday, where they are celebrating a grand revamp with an afternoon of fun and food.
The Canon O’Donovan Centre was officially opened by the then President Mary Robinson in 1994. Now, nearly 23 years on, they are celebrating the re-opening of the newly extended and refurbished centre.
Operated by Millstreet District Housing (a voluntary housing body) in conjunction with the HSE, this magnificently upgraded building is the culmination of a great deal of detailed planning and hard work. The attention to detail was second to none and the building is now finished to the highest standards.
It is now a modern, state of the art spacious building – on a par with the best of day care centres in the Cork and Kerry region. All of the building is completely wheelchair accessible.
The upgraded kitchen is modern and the enlarged space makes working conditions more pleasant and convenient for all the staff.
The day room and dining room are large, bright and comfortable with spectacular views of Mushera and Clara Mountains.
The enhanced modern shower and toilet facilities make life more comfortable and efficient for the clients and staff.
The addition of a large office, Nurses’ Room, Therapy Room (used for physiotherapy and chiropody etc), and a state of the art hairdressing salon have brought extended facilities that allow a greater level of care.
The walls are adorned with framed photographs of many local scenes and many beautiful photographs of landscapes from around Ireland. Every picture is unique and each tells its own story.
Staff at the centre believe you are never too old to enjoy yourself.
“Millstreet Day Care Centre provides a relaxed atmosphere in a comfortable modern setting where older people can gather to talk, join in activities if they wish, meet new people or renew old friendships with acquaintances they may not have met for years,” said Manager Mary Feely.
“Once here our clients can take advantage of a variety of fun and educational activities designed to improve their wellbeing and physical health.”
So, this Sunday, from 2-4pm there will be a barbecue and refreshments, a bouncy castle, face painting, and more - and all are welcome to view the extended and renovated centre in Millstreet.
