Duhallow Vintage Club say it with flowers

- MICHAEL MCGRATH

THE members of Duhallow Vintage Club will celebrate 21 years in existence at the Mallow Flower & Garden Festival this weekend and their major display of vintage vehicles will be one of the main attractions at the popular event.

The festival falls on the same weekend as the club celebration of their foundation and all vintage owners from neighbouring clubs are invited to join them in marking this significant anniversary.

PRO John O’Sullivan says they will also be saluting 100 years of the Ford Motor Company in Cork on next Sunday. This will be a special occasion for Ford fans as they will be displaying all Ford models through the years in a show sponsored by O’Brien’s Ford dealers Mallow and Jim O’Doherty, Motors Factors Newmarket.

Since they participated in the flower festival weekend some years ago, the Duhallow club has greatly added to the enjoyment of the thousands of people who flock to the event each year.

Among the vehicles they will have on display this year will be American big cars such as the wing back Mercedes, a Ford Cortina that once belonged to Monsignor James Horan of Knock Airport fame and a Ford Corsair that was discovered in a shed in the locality, where it had lain idle for the past thirty years.

Members will be on hand to welcome everybody and will endeavour to answer any questions regarding the vintage cars and vehicles on display over this coming weekend at the racecourse in Mallow.
