Mallow fourth after Round 1 of Anti-Litter Challenge
MALLOW Tidy Towns committee received the results of the first judging period in the Cork County Council Anti-litter Challenge this week and, after all the hard work collecting the litter and cigarette butts discarded on the streets, the town is left in mid table.
MTT acknowledge and thank all those who have helped to tidy the streets and keep them clean. To those who have yet to make the effort, please do so now, as the second judging period began on May 22 and ends on May 31. The third period runs from June 6 to June 14. The designated residential area for judging during period two is Sean Moylan Park, and for period three is Willowbank. MTT are calling on the residents in each area to keep their patch up to scratch.
The Mallow Traders ‘Adopt a Patch’ group were joined by volunteers last Tuesday and did a huge clean up of Shoulders Lane. It was a fantastic combined effort and many thanks go to Eleanor from Joyce’s Pharmacy and Caroline from Caroline’s Washeteria for organising it.
A special mention also to Michael, Conor and James for their hard work.
Work has begun on the Cork Road flower beds where an extra two beds are being developed with permanent planting. MTT require ‘ hands on help’ on this project so if you have an hour to spare between 8.30am and lunchtime Monday to Wednesday next week, please join the MTT team.
After Week One in the judging, Bandon have 973.3 points, followed by Carrigtwohill with 961.6 with Charleville in third on 960.9 and Mallow in fourth out of ten towns on 949.0 in Category B2.
