Guides’ cook-out smells of success
THE tempting aroma of delicious food cooking outdoors led The Corkman to the field adjacent to Boherbue Educare Centre where the local Girl Guides were hosting the Irish Girl Guides South West Regional Cook Out last Saturday.
Tempting dishes such as fatijas and burgers were sizzling on hotplates around the field, and the heavy showers failed to dampen the spirits of the cooks, or indeed spoil the cooking!
The local Guides were delighted to welcome girls from Tralee, Crosshaven, Macroom and Bandon as well as Regional Commissioner Deirdre Henley, Emma Lloyd, and Niamh McSweeney.
The Boherbue Guides have thrived in recent years thanks to the very generous contributions from the local community at church gate collections, as well as grant aid from the Cork County Council Amenities Fund, IRD Duhallow SICAP Fund and the Cork ETB LYCGS grant, which has enabled them to invest in equipment and fund vital leader training and activities.
The next outing for the girls will be in July when they attend IGGNITE, an international camp which will be held at Rockwell College in Tipperary, and attended by over 3,000 Guides from all over the world.
The Old Time Tea Room will be back in early June by popular demand and the Guides are delighted to invite everyone to drop in to the Boherbue Parish Hall for a cuppa and some cake with all contributions going to support the branch’s continued development.
