Urgent appeal from Charleville musical group

- MICHAEL MCGRATH

CHARLEVILLE’S Musica Fusion School of Music are in a race against time to raise funds to perform in the Irish Association of Youth Orchestras Festival which takes place at the National Concert Hall in Dublin on February 10, 2018.

While it is a great honour to qualify for the event it comes at great cost, which is presently beyond the capacity of the Charleville group to cover and they must have the necessary funding in place by May 29 of this year.

So the school has put out an appeal for funding to the tune of €5,500 from local businesses to enable them to purchase proper sized instruments, the entry fee and the cost of bus transport to Dublin for the musicians and the instruments.

School principal Susie Butler runs the free orchestra programme for over 70 children ranging from four years to 18 years in the former Pavilion Cinema building at Clanchy Terrace, Charleville.

She is helped by six highly qualified teachers who donate their time and talents to the orchestra.

They also fund the instruments, the rehearsal space and all the other costs associated with the running of the orchestra.

Their most recent performance was at the Coole Festival of Music in Galway where they received great acclaim and, on foot of that, were chosen to perform at the Irish Association of Youth Orchestras Festival in Dublin next February.

If you are in a position to help please contact Susie Butler at 087-9873379 or call in to her at the Musica Fusion building at Clanchy Terrace, Charleville.
