EVEREST CHALLENGE

Seven participants over more than 18-hour period, on May 7, cycled the gruelling ascend from Fitzgerald’s Bar in Ballymagooly, up the hill, and past Rahan School, to the site of the old dump in order for raise awareness and funds for ‘Room four Tiernan’ charity.

Tiernan is an 11-year boy confined to a wheelchair with spina bifida and hydrocephalus, whose family home, needs significant works to improve his quality of life.

To climb that arduous climb one would be perhaps achievable for some fit persons but to do so, 51 times is bordering on incredibility. The first ascend was at five AM, and these hardy souls only crawled or peeled or got off the bikes after 11 PM.

The number of climbs was significant as this mimic the height, of the highest mountain in the World, Mount Everest at 8,440 Metres – now, in anyone’s language, that is a hell of a lot of climbing.

Congratulations to the participants, who took on this incredible challenge were Joe Taylor, Paul Birchill, Indrek Mannik, Pat Noonan, James Slowey, Kate Noonan and Sinéad Cremin.
