CHAMPIONS!

Congratulations to Killanardrish/ on winning the ‘ Dennehys Sports and Fitness’ Division 4 Cork Schoolboys league title. The boys defeated Midleton AFC by three goals to one to claim the title and finish the league unbeaten.

This was no easy game played on a perfect pitch at the Glebe. Midleton went a goal up against the run of play after 25 minutes but Coachford pulled one back with a great bit of work from goal scorer Cialan O’Sullivan.

After the break Coachford upped the pressure and a sweet free kick was scored from Ardghal O’Buachalla. Midleton then took over for the next 10 minutes and hit the woodwork twice in their bid for an equaliser. Coachford weathered the storm and in the dying minutes, Man of the match, Mark Murphy scored from a header to put the result beyond doubt. Wild celebrations followed the final whistle and the cup was presented to Captain, Liam Grimes.

This is a very strong Coachford team with players from Coachford, Rylane, Dripsey, and Donoughmore, They’ll be playing in a higher division next year and we wish them the best of luck in that campaign.

Well done to Brian Dineen, Seán Buckley, Mark Murphy, Liam Grimes, Colm O’Connell Donnacha Morrissey, Tom Griffin, Reece O’Sullivan, Ardghal O’Buachalla, Emmet Ahern, Cialan O’Sullivan, Darragh Herlihy, Brendan Harrington, Padraic O’Sullivan, Jack Moynihan, Davin Kelleher, Darragh Moynihan, Tony Nolan,

FESTIVAL FEVER

The Coachford Festival is just around the corner and the team organising it are determined to put on the best one yet. It all kicks off this year on July 11 and runs to the 16th.

The highlights will probably be the Lip Sync battle which should be fierce craic. Rumours abound that the girls in the pharmacy might be performing as the ‘Spice Girls’ and a few lads from ‘O’Donovan Engineering’ are looking at turning up as ‘Take That’ Go Damien. The ‘MJ Kelleher Oils’ five mile Road Race is on a Thursday this year and because the festival is on in July the race can now start at the later time of 8 p.m. There are loads of cash prizes for the winners and other goodies for those taking part.

Sunday should see a huge collection of Ford Vehicles to help celebrate their 100th Anniversary. There will of course be wife carrying, fun fair, children’s sports, tractor building and loads of other stuff that the team are finalising in the next few days.

The main beneficiaries from this year’s festival will be Marymount Hospice, CUH Children’s Unit, Macroom Hospital and local charities. Be part of this year’s festival. Get involved. Enjoy it and support it.

FÉILE FINALS

Well done to Aghabullogue under-14 hurlers who qualified for the Cork County Féile semi-finals yesterday. The lads defeated Laorchra Óg, Courcey Rovers and Kilbrittain in the Féile blitz in Ballinaspittle. The team, numbering only 16 won all their games and gave some great performances right throughout the day.

The boys, Seán O’Sullivan, David O’Shea, Ciaran O’Connell, Paul Dineen, Colm Gillespie, TJ Buckley, Darragh McCarthy, Brian Dineen, Brendan Harrington, Jack Moynihan, James Foley, James Lane, Oran O’Connell, Davin Kelleher, Jamie Wilson and Ciaran Thompson all played well and were the better team in all the games.

They now must face either last year’s champions Lisgoold, or St Vincent’s or St Kevin’s in the next stage.

ON YOUR BIKE

Coachford was packed full of cyclists last Sunday as the annual Coachford Classic took place. This event, organised by Coachford Cycling Club and sponsored by Noel Deasy Skoda saw a large influx of cyclists and supporters into the village and it turned out to be a super event again this year.

The route had to be changed this year due to the appalling condition of the road between the grotto and the graveyard. The cyclists enjoyed excellent weather and some really good racing. There were races for under-12, under-14, under-16s and juniors. The route was well stewarded and disruption to other road users was at a minimum. The Cycling club, formed in 2010 have an excellent record in hosting and organising some excellent races. Well done to all involved.

FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

The Aghabullogue intermediate footballers will meet St Finbarr’s in the second round of the county championship on Sunday evening at 7 p.m. in Cloughduv. The boys will be hoping for a great performance to help them advance to the next round but they will face stiff opposition from a very young and fancied city side.
