Juniors cruise past Deise to book Munster JFC final spot

CORK Junior footballer­s had a big win over Waterford in the Munster JFC semi-final at Fraher Field, Dungarvan on Saturday evening.

Conor McGrath opened the scoring with an early point for the home side. Anthony O’Connor had a free well saved by Kevin Dwane. In the 7th minute O’Connor with a free levelled at 0-1 each. Two minutes later Anthony O’Connor pointed a free after a foul on Killian O’Hanlon.

The Deise side were back on terms when Darren Guiry and Shane O’Ceallaigh worked well for Cillian O’Keeffe who pointed. The Rebels had their first goal in the 14th minute when John Cronin finished off a good attack by Anthony O’Connor.

Cork led for the rest of the game. Waterford stayed in the hunt with David Gartland and Cillian O’Keeffe working well for Shane Walsh who pointed. Anthony O’Connor replied with another free. Cork had their 5th wide in the 19th minute. Good play by Paul O’Connor led to a Conor McGrath point.

Good work for Cork by Bart Daly and Ryan Harkin led to their first point from play in the 24th minute 1-4 to 0-4. Waterford could have an equalising goal soon after when Eoin O’Brien was put through but kicked wide from close range.

Ryan Harkin added a Cork point. Good combined play by Don O’Driscoll to Seamus Hickey and Eoghan Buckley led to a Killian O’Hanlon point. In injury time Shane Walsh (free) cut the lead at the break 1-6 to 0-5.

On the resumption Cork gained supremacy, they had a few wides but Roy Downey Seamus Hickey and Eoghan Buckley had a few good points.

Conor McGrath replied with a Waterford point. Cork moved double scores clear by the 43rd minute 1-11 to 0-7 when Ryan Harkin placed Killian O’Hanlon for punched point. From here on it was all Cork, they used the short passing at speed to good effect.

Points by O’Connor and Eoghan Buckley made it 1-14 to 0-7. John Gartland had a 47th minute point for Waterford. Cork took complete control finishing out the game with 2-7 to just a point for Waterford.

The Cork goals came in quick succession from Eoghan Buckley and Seamus Hickey.

Eoin O’Brien had Waterford’s last score with Ryan Harkin completing Cork’s tally deep in injury time.
