Grange 3-8 Cobh 1-12

GRANGE and Cobh played an entertaining Co JBFC quarter final at Lisgoold on Friday evening.

The lead changed hands a few times but overall goals proved vital in Grange’s victory. The Avondhu side started well with early points by John Carmody and Colin Scott.

The winners had their first goal in the 9th minute when John Carmody, Michael Hennessy and Darren Roche worked well for David Keating who goaled. Gradually Cobh got back into the contest. They won a lot of possession in midfield where Darragh Kelleher was in great form.

Conor Farrell opened the Imokilly sides account in the 12th minute from a free. Cobh created some good attacks and a series of points by Eoin Hastings and Cian Spriggs had the lead down to a point after 21 minutes 1-2 to 0-4.

Good play by Michael Hennessy led to a fine David Keating point. Exchanges were close up to the break with the sides level 1-3 to 0-6 and 1-4 to 0-7. In injury time John Carmody and Colin Scott worked a good movement with Carmody taking the return pass and giving the winners an interval lead 1-5 to 0-7.

Grange had a goal early on the resumption when Alan McNamara, Darren Scott and John Roche worked well for Keating to get his second goal 2-5 to 0- 8. Cobh replied soon after when Darragh Kelleher, Eoin Hastings and Conor Farrell were all involved in placing Eoin Hastings for an equalising goal. Cobh hit the front through Cian Spriggs.

In the 38th minute the sides were level when Alan McNamara set up David Keating for a point 1-9 to 2- 6. Cobh hit the front when Dan Keating pointed. Grange battled back well, impressive Darren Roche worked well for Colin Scott who placed Alan McNamara for a point from a tight angle.

The East Cork side hit the front again when Darragh Kelleher and Jack Ronan worked a good movement with Cian Spriggs that saw David O’Connor who made it 1-11 to 2-7.

Grange forced a ‘45 that was converted by Brian Cashman that had them level for the 6th and last time entering the final quarter 1-11 to 2-8. Both sides had just a score each in a very tense last quarter.

Cobh hit the front when Conor Farrell pointed a free after a foul on Cian Spriggs. The last score came in the 55th minute when a free by Noel Barry found Colin Scott on the edge of the square who netted.

Cobh tried very hard in injury time to get back into the hunt. The winners defended very well in this period where Noel Barry had moved to the half-back line after an injury to Darren Scott. Grange will now meet Kilbrin in the semi-final this weekend.
