Kildorrery through to round four

Kildorrery 1-12 Glenville 0-11

A goal just before half-time proved decisive as Kildorrery had a close win over Glenville in the County IFC Round 2A game at Castlelyon­s on Sunday.

The opening half was very keenly contested with the sides level 0-1, 0-2, 0-3, 0-4, 0-5 and 0-6 each. Glenville’s sixth point could so easily have been a goal when Anthony Cronin cut in with Kildorrery keeper saving with the rebound going over.

The only goal came in the 29th minute when Eamonn O’Connor finished off a four man attack to the net. Kildorrery added a point by James O’Sullivan that gave them a four point lead at the break 1-7 to 0-6.

Disaster struck Glenville on the changeover, they lost Shane Field to a second yellow. They also lost Kevin O’Neill to a black card. Tom Monaghan pointed a free as the ‘Hill’ moved 1-8 to 0-6 clear.

Paudie Cahill came on for the Imokilly side and kicked some very good frees. Glenville again lost another player when Dan Dennehy received his second yellow. Paudie Cahill kicked some pointed frees and when PJ Dennehy set up Aaron Spriggs for a point the lead was down to a point 1-8 to 0-10.

Glenville keeper Aidan Foley made a series of fine saves as Kildorrery cut through at speed. In the 54th minute James O’Sullivan pointed for Kildorrery. Shane O’Neill made it 1-10 to 0-10.

James O’Sullivan received a second yellow soon after. In the 56th minute Paudie Cahill had his fourth pointed free. Kildorrery sealed the win when Tom Monaghan put Sean O’Sullivan through for a point. Glenville were down to 12 in the dying moments when Anthony Cronin picked up a second yellow.

They tried very hard to close the gap but the numerical difference proved crucial. Time ran out and Kildorrery who list James O’Sullivan to a double yellow card late in the game emerged winners by a four point margin.
